Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] -- [OCCUPATIONAL]. A group of 19 images related to firefighting.

Sixth plate tintype portrait of 2 firemen, each wearing a hat with the name of their fire company and the number "2," along with bordered belts with the number "2" displayed boldly on the main loop, and corsages. (Minor abrasions and imperfections to image, mostly to lower right edge, spotting to mat; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (surface wear). The subjects' hats may say "Camden," but it is impossible to decipher with certainty. -- CDV portrait of 2 children, one dressed as a fireman and the other with a cigar in his mouth. Bordentown, NJ: Swain, n.d. (corners clipped, spotting and some creasing to image, discoloration to mount). -- Large format silver gelatin photograph of a fire company, all in uniform, standing on the street in front of their fire engine. Ca early 20th century (minor abrasions to image surface including surface scratching and some spots of loss, toning espeically to right and lower edge of image; mount with significant damage including adhesive residue/removal, loss to lower right corner, and soiling). The firemen all wear hats with a large numeral "1" at center, with indecipherable text above and below, likely their company name, city, and/or initials. -- And 16 other photographs, mostly albumen and silver gelatin on  cardstock mounts. -- Together, 19 images of firemen and fire engines.
