Lot Description
[AVIATION]. A group of 34 RPPCs & photographs of early airplanes and dirigibles.
The lot is comprised of approx. 22 postcards, including printed and real photo postcards, 3 1/2 x 5 1/2 in., or smaller, several unused, and 12 silver gelatin photographs and snapshots, 3 x 5 in., or smaller. Many of the scenes and subjects are identified in the negative.
Highlighted titles/scenes include: Image of an early balloon, with modern label crediting the photograph to William Preston Mayfield. -- A flying visit to the Hand Hotel, Llangollen, Wales. -- Flying airships at the New York State Fair, Syracuse, NY. -- Charles Lindbergh and the Spirit of St. Louis at France Field. -- Multiple images of airplanes in Hawaii. -- Early view of a sea plane. -- British Spitfire Fighters in formation. -- 2 interior photographs of a Graf Zeppelin. -- Snapshot of an airplane landing on a merry-go-round.
Together, 34 real photo postcards, printed postcards, and photographs. Condition generally good to very good. Some with corner and edge wear, toning, trimmed edges, and album residue to verso.
