Forward to Amalgamation-A Labor Party and A Workers' Government. May Day Manifesto of the Workers Party of America. [New York?]: Central Executive Committee, Workers Party of America, [ca 1920-1921]. Approx. 7 5/8 x 10 3/8 in. handbill (toned, chipping at edges old tape at left edge). A very early document regarding the formation of the Workers' Party which would become the Communist Party of America. -- Mass Meeting Under the Auspices of the Russian Revolutionary Aid Society. [Philadelphia]: Russian Revolutionary Aid Society, 1903. With an address by Clarence S. Darrow among others. -- And 14 others. [McCARTHYISM]. A group of anti-Communist-related ephemera including a typed letter signed by J. Edgar HOOVER with additional documents on three suspected Communists, comprising:
HOOVER, J. Edgar. (1895-1972). Typed letter signed ("J. Edgar Hoover"), as Director of the FBI, to Dr. John R. Steelman, Assistant to the President. Washington, D.C., 3 February 1947. 1 page, 4to, on Federal Burau of Investigation letterhead, oxidation from previous paperclips. Stamped declassified, 3 February 1995. Hoover writes to the assistant to the President with investigations into Communist activities of several people. Included are 9 documents including an application for Federal employment, the reports, and memoranda. Reports on Gerald Graze, who worked in the State Department in WWII, identified as a communist but never accused of espionage; Kurt Borchardt; and Norman Mildred Bron van Denise.

With Autograph letter signed ("Willard Uphaus"). -- Photograph. -- Together, 3 items related to Willard Uphaus, the director of the World Fellowship who subpoenaed for information on communists. Refusing, he was convicted of contempt and lost his appeal in the Supreme Court.
