Lot Description
[ROOSEVELT, Franklin D. (1882-1945) -- HOOVER, Herbert (1874-1964)]. 1930s "Salt River" broadsides.

Grand Salt Excursion Saturday Afternoon, Nov. 12, 1932...Leaving Democratic Headquarters. N.p.: N.p., 1932. 8 x 24 in. broadside on green paper (creases, short marginal tears,  minor areas of discoloration/toning, pinhole). Comic broadside from the 1932 election between Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Herbert Hoover.

Going Up Salt River on the Republican Excursion...Gettysburg, PA. [Pennsylvania]: Times & News Publishing Company, [1936?]. 17 x 22 in. broadside on peach paper (short marginal tears and loss to corners, some creasing). Satirical broadside that appears to date from the 1936 presidential elections, or perhaps another state or national election from the 1930s, with references to the New Deal.

"Salt River" was a popular euphemism used since the 19th century synonymous with political failure and humiliation.
