Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Large group of portrait photography, incl. CDVs, cabinet cards, & RPPCs. 

The lot is comprised of the following photographs, including both formal portraits and informal photographs and snapshots of various personalities, locations, and activities:

Approx. 10 CDVs. -- 3 stereoviews. -- Approx. 40 cabinet cards. -- Approx. 14 tintypes. -- Approx. 6 glass slides. -- 1 cyanotype. -- Approx. 206 real photo postcards and snapshots dating from the early-to-mid 20th century (including musicians, early Hollywoood subjects, etc.). Many of the subjects and scenes are identified in the negative or include a manuscript notation. 

Highlights from the collection include: Cabinet card of a large group of people, mostly white subjects with the exception of an African American gentleman. Everett, PA: Bruce & Fisher. -- Uncredited cabinet card of a family posed outside a log cabin. -- Cabinet card of a female graduate. Chicago, IL: Siegel Cooper. -- Cabinet card of men playing cards and drinking. Odessa, MO; Wells. -- Cabinet card of a superintendent in uniform. Montclair, NJ: Thomas. -- Cabinet card of a man playing a banjo while holding an infant in his lap. Salt Lake City, UT: F.G. Rance & Co. --2 photographs of African American men with oxen, one taken in College Park, MD according to verso inscription. -- RPPC of two young African American male subjects dressed in suits. -- 3 mounted photographs of Chinese subjects. Olympia, WA: T.W. Patterson, ca early 20th century. -- Tintype of bathers posed before a painted backdrop. -- Photograph of Charles Lindbergh with a female companion by Underwood. -- Real photo postcards and printed portraits of various actors and actresses of the late 19th-early 20th century, such as Gloria Swanson and Douglas Fairbanks. -- Snapshot of the Beatles signing autographs. -- Signed photograph of a bicycling champion. -- RPPC of 2 women in a studio, one holding what appears to be a Steiff bear. -- RPPC of a football scene, possibly representing Stanford. -- RPPC of two women in a studio setting, one wearing a dress, the other dressed as a man. 

Together, more than 280 photographs. Condition generally good. Many with corner and edge wear, including trimmed edges, toning, and some with soiling. A mix of used and unused RPPCs are included in the collection.
