Lot Description
Balenciaga Haute Couture Three-Piece Ensemble, 1950s
Cristobal Balenciaga was the first designer to surrender the cinched waist in 1957; by the 1960s he was shocking the fashion press with increasingly abstract silhouettes. Alongside his dramatic, architectural forms, Balenciaga produced wearable, elegant, exquisitely embellished garments for his dedicated haute couture clientele including Mona Von Bismark and Bunny Mellon.
Peach silk sleeveless wrap dress with white rose pattern, crew neckline, gathered waistband, and center back zipper closure; paired with a matching bolero with raglan sleeves, notched lapel, and an open front. Comes with matching slip skirt.
