Lot Description
Two Galanos Dresses, 1980-90s

James Galanos (1924-2016) was the only son of Greek born parents. In 1944, he became a general assistant at the New York East 49th Street emporium of Hattie Carnegie. Galanos was known for using the finest materials and impeccable construction, often called the ‘American Couturier’. With a career that spanned five decades, he dressed Hollywood stars, royalty, and political figures of the day.

THE FIRST 
Red wool crepe with the front panel of the dress made of small tucks, while the back is plain crepe fabric. The dress is cut with a crew neckline and long sleeves with the bottom half made with the tucked fabric. The dress is lined in silk  satin and closes down the center back with a zipper.

THE SECOND 
White silk satin dress with a grid pattern made of tucks in the fabric. The dress is cut with a wide scoop neckline, long sleeves, and closes down the center back with a zipper.

THE FIRST 
The overall condition of the red dress is very good with no condition issues. 

THE SECOND 
The overall condition of the white dress is fair as the structure is good but there are snags in the satin throughout.

Everything is sold 'As Is’. The stated overall condition of the lot is based on the assumption that the wear is consistent with age and use. The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging.
