Lot Description
Three Mid-19th Century Ensembles & Dresses, 1850-60s

This lot includes three 1850-60s Ensembles/Dresses. Each of these items have condition issues. 

THE FIRST 
Green and pink fancy weave brocade two-piece dress. The boned bodice is cut with a wide scoop neckline and short sleeves that have been replaced with near-matching fabric and ribbon. The sleeves are underlined with net and pink ribbon. The bodice is underlined with white cotton that shows the hand-stitching used to sew the bodice.

THE SECOND 
Blue and brown fancy weave dress with crew neckline, flared sleeves with silk tassel fringe hems, and a very full skirt pleated into the waistlind. The dress is closed down the front with hooks and eyes.

THE THIRD 
Five-piece ensemble with bodice, cape, detachable set of sleeves, and skirt. The bodice, cape, and sleeves are all in good condition, while the skirt is in poor condition. The ensemble is made of the same green/tan plaid that is trimmed with a matching ribbon. The bodice, cape, and sleeves are all edged with a green and white fringed ribbon. The boned bodice is cut with a wide neckline, short sleeves, vertical gathers throughout, a cream cotton or linen lining, and two pads sewn to the inner bust. The cape is further trimmed with decorative buttons down the center front and silk fring at the hems. The sleeves are also trimmed with decorative buttons and are lined with cream silk. The full skirt is made of nine gathered ruffles of silk ribbon pleated into a waistband.

Condition Report

Condition:

The overall condition of the fabric is very good with several seams popped open in the main part of the skirt and waistband. 

THE SECOND
The overall condition is poor with several splits in the fabric in the bodice and skirt. The lining is also in poor condition.

THE THIRD 
The bodice, cape, and sleeves are in good condition with overall browning to the fabric and brown spots at the back right. The bodice lining also has brown spots, especially around the underarms. The cape is in good condition with a broken panel of lace at the center back neck, the lining shows some brown spots, and one tassel is missing at the back. The sleeves are in good condition with some brown spots around the top/underarm. The skirt is in poor condition with overall darkening/browning of the fabric, the fabric is also splitting and with areas of loss throughout. The waistband is missing and there are signs of repairs on the interior.
