2 1/8 x 3 1/8 in. CDV on cardstock mount (light spotting to surface and mount). Verso with imprint of Mudy, Charleston, SC. Accompanied by portion of original album page in which the CDV was housed, identifying the subject as "Capt. Thomas Howle."
Thomas Epaphroditus Howle (1825-1862) served with the 8th South Carolina Infantry, Company F, Darlington District. He was the only member of the company that was killed in action on 17 September 1862 near Dunker Church at Sharpsburg/Antietam.
