Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR - CAPTURE OF RICHMOND]. New York Semi-Weekly Tribune. Vol. XX, No. 2,072. New York: 4 April 1865.

8pp., folio, 15 3/4 x 20 1/2 in. Disbound (partially separated at central fold, chipping, some tearing, small areas of loss at edges incl. lower left corner, light staining to right portion of each page). Applied paper label in upper margin likely identified to original owner.

The front page features an illustration of an eagle with shield above prominent, "stacked" headlines and seven columns of text reporting on the capture of the Confederate Capitol City of Richmond, VA, by Union forces. An outstanding display issue covering the “beginning of the end” of the Confederacy that would come to fruition just five days later with the surrender of Robert E. Lee to U.S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, VA.
