PHELPS, Amos A. Lectures on Slavery and its Remedy. Boston, MA: New-England Anti-Slavery Society, publishers; Garrison & Knapp, printers, 1834. 16mo. (Occasional spotting throughout.) Policed brown cloth, printed paper label spine label (some loss to spine cloth and paper label, edges and covers sunned, wear to edges). Identified twice on inside cover and FFEP, "J. Southwick," and inscribed in pencil on a back endpaper, "'These are the very principles for which our fathers faught and died,' Gen. Foster Aug. 7th 1835." 

FIRST EDITION of this collection of anti-slavery lectures delivered by Massachusetts abolitionist Amos A. Phelps. At the the time of publication, Phelps was pastor of Pine-Street Church in Boston. 

[With:] [CAREY, John L.]. Some Thoughts Concerning Domestic Slavery, in a Letter To ___ ___, Esq. of Baltimore. Baltimore, MD: Joseph N. Lewis, publisher; John D. Toy, printer, 1838. 16mo. (Moderate spotting to text, 2 in. tear to leaf (pp. 35-36.) Brown cloth with printed red label on front board (some stains and abrasions to boards, 1 in. split along front spine edge). Ownership and presentation inscriptions on title page and p. 2, "Presented by A.R. Levering Esq. 1844," and "M. Downing." 

FIRST EDITION in which a Baltimore editor addresses the question of domestic slavery in America while exploring various forms of slavery throughout history. The second edition, published the following year, identifies the author.
