Lot Description
[AFRICAN AMERICANA - ENTERTAINMENT]. A group of 4 chromolithographs of African Americans performing the Cakewalk. Ca 1903.

16 1/4 x 15 3/4 in. chromolithographs, each housed in 17 1/4 x 16 3/4 in. frames (toning, soiling, areas of creasing, some chipping and short tears to margins, unexamined outside frames). The chromolithographs, which were also used in advertisements of the period, depict African American vaudeville actors performing the Cakewalk. The four prints are said to be based on scenes from the 1903 musical comedy In Dahomey, featuring African American performers Bert Williams and George Walker, as well as their wives, Lottie Williams and Aida Overton Walker.
