Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. [SHINDLER, Antonio Zeno (1823-1899), photographer]. Ma-Za-O-Ya-Ti, Iron Nation. [Washington, DC, 1867].

5 x 7 3/8 in. period albumen photograph on 5 5/8 x 8 1/2 in. contemporary mount (light, even toning to print, very good condition overall). Numbered "380" in the negative, and identified in pencil on mount verso. 

A seated portrait of Iron Nation, a chief of the Lower Brule Lakota, holding a pipe on his lap. Iron Nation was a signatory to several major treaties, including the treaty that created the Great Sioux Reservation.
