Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. A group of 2 cabinet photographs of Cheyenne Indians at Fort Reno, Oklahoma Territory, comprising:

6 3/4 x 4 1/4 in. cabinet photographs on cardstock mounts (toning and spotting/soiling to prints, edge and corner wear to mounts). Uncredited photographs, each with period manuscript identification to mount recto and typed paper label affixed to upper margin of print.

Captions include: "Cheyenne? Issue Day for Rations" -- "Chiefs Cheyenne come to see Commission from Washington."

Commissioned as a military post in 1874, Fort Reno served to protect and placate the Cheyenne and Arapaho population in the area, through a variety of means including the issuance of rations such as live cattle, given to the Cheyenne and Arapaho people to chase and shoot like buffalo.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report

The physical condition of lots in our auctions can vary due to age, normal wear and tear, previous damage, and restoration/repair. All lots are sold "AS IS," in the condition they are in at the time of the auction, and we and the seller make no representation or warranty and assume no liability of any kind as to a lot's condition. Any reference to condition in a catalogue description or a condition report shall not amount to a full accounting of condition. Condition reports prepared by Hindman staff are provided as a convenience and may be requested from the Department prior to bidding.
