Lot Description
[IDAHO TERRITORY]. THOMPSON, David P. (1834-1901). Autograph letter signed ("D. P. Thompson"), as Idaho Territory Governor, to Ulysses S. GRANT. Boise City, ID, 16 July 1876.
1 page, 4to, docketed verso, a few short separations to folds.
In full: "I would most respectfully recommend the appointment of Hon. Ephraim Flint of Dover Maine as Governor of Idaho Territory."
Ulysses S. Grant appointed David P. Thompson as governor of Idaho Territory in 1875. Thompson maintained his residence in Oregon only making brief trips to Idaho territory, though, and resigned his post at Grant's request in the summer of 1876. Rather than appointing Dover Maine lawyer Ephraim Flint as governor following Thompson's recommendation, he appointed Mason Brayman of Illinois.
