[MILITARIA] -- [TEXAS]. A collection of 14 CDVs, many taken in Brownsville, Texas, including portraits of officers, local residents, and notable locations, including:

CDV, outdoor view of a Elizabeth Street, Brownsville, TX, with lengthy period notation on verso by Assistant Surgeon "A.L. Norris, Post Surgeon" (114th USCT) to his father / brother "R.G. Norris in South Reading, Mass.," dated 1 February 1866. The inscription may indicate that the photographs offered here were assembled by Albert Norris.  

Additional subjects include:

CDV, "Asst. Surg. A.W. Merrill and wife" (verso identification). Uncredited. A.W. Merrill served with the 116th USCT. He enlisted at Ringold, TX 8/16/1865 as assistant surgeon, captain by brevet 3/13/1865, MO 1/17/1867.  -- Seated view of soldier, "Charles Ganthier (?), HS [Hospital Steward] US Army" (verso identification). New Orleans, LA: S. Anderson. The subject wears a Caduceus insignia on his sleeve. -- CDV, "Chas. H. Morse / Lt. Col. 117th USCT" (recto identification). Uncredited. Inscribed on verso, "Brownsville, Texas," with penciled date of October 1866. Morse was formerly a sergeant, Co. D, 3rd Michigan Cavalry (POW 12/15/1862). He joined 117th USCT as captain 8/16/1864, colonel by brevet 3/13/1865, lieutenant colonel 1/12/1866, MO 8/10/1867. -- "Major A.J. Hogan, 114th USCT" (verso identification). Louisville, KY: Elrod Bros. Hogan enlisted 7/6/1864, MO 4/2/1867. -- "S. Hemenway / Surg. 41st USCT" (autographed on verso), with "Eugene City / Lane Co. / Oregon" address below, without context. Uncredited. Stacy Hemenway was formerly assistant surgeon, 9th IL Cavalry. Appointed surgeon 41st USCT 12/19/1864, MO 12/10/1865. -- "Ira Perry MD / Canton, Mass." (verso identification). The subject is shown with spectacles wearing unusual uniform / rank variation. New Orleans, LA: S. Anderson. Perry was assistant surgeon, 9th USCT 11/11/1863, major by brevet 3/13/1865, MO 3/26/1866. -- "Captain and Mrs. Woodward" (verso identification). Uncredited. Unknown officer in uniform. -- Standing view of "Lt. C. Hilton 117" (verso identification. Uncredited. -- CDV of unidentified 1st lieutenant with spectacles and uniform. Uncredited. -- Civilian view of "R.G. Norris / Aug. 1870" (verso identification). Uncredited. -- Civilians, "Hon. Mr. & Mrs. Downy / Brownsville, TX" (verso identification). Uncredited. Unknown local notables. -- CDV of civilian "Dr. Savage" (verso identification). Uncredited.

[With:] 2 1/2 x 4 in. late-war tintype of unknown infantry private with blue tinted trousers backed by tent city painted canvas backdrop (few light creases to plate, light surface wear).
