Lot Description
SEWARD, William H. ALS. Washington, 24 February 1852. Addressed to Schuyler Colfax, re. politics.
One page, 7 7/8 x 9 3/4 in., on bifolium. Creased, with minor toning and wear to edges and corners, spots of adhesive residue to verso. Docketed verso. With embossed "Carson's Congress" logo to upper left.
Seward writes, largely illegibly, about a topic Colfax had reached out to him about previously. He ends the letter discussing the motives and possible positions of southern politicians: "If the [indecipherable] of the enemy will not reconcile our Southern friends to [indecipherable]...would scatter all the friends he has in the North - Let us try for once to see how well we can do by standing on equal grounds."
