Lot Description
[ARTISTS]. Autograph letters signed by Thomas MORAN and E.L. HENRY.
MORAN, Thomas (1837-1936), artist. Autograph letter signed ("T. Moran"), to Mr. Buck. New York, NY, 2 April 1896. One page, 5 x 8 in. (light toning, some fading to ink, including Moran's signature). Moran writes, "Do you still feel disposed toward that picture of the 'Golden Gate Yellowstone' picture? If so, I will propose to take back the 'Canon' that you have, frame and all at what it cost you, & the remainder in monthly installments. How does this arrangement strike you."
[With:] HENRY, E.L. (1841-1919), artist. Autograph letter signed ("E.L. Henry"), to G.H. Buck. New York, NY, 23 April 1903. One and one-half pages, 5 1/4 x 6 3/4 in. (few smudges, otherwise very good). Henry first discusses a "Black and White" that was offered to Buck, which he presumes is from the painting "Waiting at the Ferry," in Albany. He identified the photograph as Klackner's and said that the man who offered it for sale had no right to sell it at all. Henry also describes a large watercolor called "the New Woman," showing a "young girl in bloomers by a Bicycle stopping to get a glass of water...it was a 250 dollar picture but as the Bicycle craze has passed, I would sell it for $50...I intended to take it to the country for my permanent collection, to probably sell after my death." He also mentions a large painting of "A wedding in the thirties" that he just completed.
Together, 2 letters.
