Octavo, contemporary navy cloth, spine gilt-lettered (some wear to extremities; light toning and some edge wear to pages; Vol. VI covers detaching; Vol. X front hinge detaching).
Sir William Johnson (1715-1774) served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the Northern Department (New York) during the French and Indian War. He was one of the most important figures in the British colonies during this crucial period in American history and was involved with maintaining good relations with the powerful Iroquois Confederacy in the war for the empire against France (1755-1760).
