Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS - WESTERN AMERICANA]. 10 photos of Alaska, incl. view of Indian Mission building.

2 cabinet photographs, 6 1/8 x 4 in., or smaller, on cardstock mounts. Titles include: No. 31. - Presbyterian Indian Mission Building [Alaska]. Walla Walla, Washington Territory: H.H. Brodeck, Northwest Trading Co. (toning, fading, soiling to print and mount). An "X" is inked over the doorway with an additional inked line below the top row of windows, with accompanying manuscript notation on verso, which reads in part, "The old hospital building where the Boys Home was started. X The small bedroom where they at first slept afterwards the large rooms with 5 windows was furnished..." -- Untitled outdoor view with manuscript caption on verso, "Boys Home Sitka School." Uncredited (toning, occasional spotting to print and mount). 

[With:] 4 boudoir photographs, 4 1/2 x 7 7/8 in., or smaller, on cardstock mounts. Titles include: No. 232. Indian Training School. Carpenter Shop. Sitka, Alaska: Edward de Groff (toning and fading to print; edge and corner wear to mount). -- 6. Lincoln Street, West, Sitka, Alaska. Sitka, Alaska: Edward de Groff (even toning, light spotting; some edge and corner wear to mount). -- Alaska, US, 1887 / Killisnoo. Boston, MA: Partridge, 1887 (toning, some soiling to print and mount). -- Untitled view of a woman standing before the "Native Church, Sitka, Alaska. The church Father Austin founded 1884 - and where he preached until 1898" (manuscript caption on verso). Uncredited (significant crease to lower left corner of print and mount). 

[With:] 3 3/4 x 7 5/8 in. photograph of totem poles, on 7 x 14 in. mount. Juneau, Alaska: Winter & Pond (as credited in modern pencil on verso) (toning; some spotting and light staining to mount). -- Northern Transportation. A man is being pulled by a team of dogs in an unknown, wintry setting, credited to Albert Blyth (photographer's name and title penciled in lower margin). 9 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. photograph on 13 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. mount (very good condition). -- 2 real photo postcards of totem poles, the first captioned "Totem Pole, Sitka, Alaska," and credited to E.C. Adams, the second captioned "The tallest Totem Pole in the world, 120 ft. Totem Pole Park, Crescent City, Redwood Highway, 1879" (album residue on verso). 

Together, 10 photographs, most showing Alaska.
