Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. MOON, Carl (1879-1948). 3 photographs of Native American women and children.
3 photographs of Native American subjects, including individual portraits of two young women and a child, 4 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. (sight), each mounted in cardstock mat with gilt blindstamp in lower margin, "Carl Moon, 565 N. Mentor Ave., Pasadena, Cal." (prints in very good condition; some corner and edge wear to mounts, including some staining). Each print is ink inscribed in lower margin, "Carl Moon," and includes Carl Moon's blindstamp.
Carl Moon (1879-1948) became interested in photography and American Indians at an early age. After apprenticing for six years, he opened his own photographic studio in Albuquerque. He was in charge of Fred Harvey’s Headquarters at the Grand Canyon, AZ, and also worked as the official photographer for the Santa Fe Railroad. His highly artistic and sensitive images were exhibited in major museums around the US, and at the invitation of President Theodore Roosevelt, at the White House.
