Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. [JACKSON, Wm. Henry, photog.] The Colorado or Front Range from near Gold Hill.
13 x 8 in. albumen photograph on 20 x 16 in. cardstock mount (toning to print; mount with toning, some spotting, edge and corner wear, tape residue and some loss to verso). Later penciled credit to Jackson on verso, as well as 1873 date.
[With:] 7 1/4 x 4 1/2 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount of mountain landscape inscribed on verso as, "'Fisher's Peak,' 7 miles South of Trinidad, Colo. The highest peak in southern Colorado." The inscription is signed "Hale," and dated "Xmas [18]96." Uncredited (some fading to print; mount with some edge and corner wear, staining to verso).
[Also with:] 6 silver gelatin photographs of California, 7 7/8 x 5 3/4 in., 3 of which are credited in the negative to Slocum (corner and edge wear to prints, including some creasing and minor loss). Captions include: Court Hotel Del Coronado (loss to lower right corner of print). -- Coronado, California. -- Surf at Coronado. -- 3 photographs lacking captions, presumably additional scenes of Coronado. The 6 photographs were taken by noted San Diego photographer John E. (J.E.) Slocum (1851-1916) who photographed the area around the turn of the century.
Together, 8 photographs of Colorado and California. Condition generally good unless otherwise noted.
