Lot Description
An Original Scrapbook from the Career of Junior Lightweight Boxing Champion Frankie Klick Curated by Manager Joe Doran
On Christmas Day, 1933, Frankie Klick became the Junior Lightweight champion of the world with a 7th round TKO over boxing hall of famer Kid Chocolate. Klick would vacate the title the following year and utlimately finished his 126-bout career with a record of 86-26-13-1 fighting many of the top champions in his era including Henry Armstrong, Barney Ross, Tony Canzoneri and Lou Ambers.
Klick's career was carefully guided by manager Joe Doran and where the contents of this scrapbook are sourced. Among the items preserved within are an original signed fight contract for Klick's Jan. 28, 1927 6-round fight vs. California Joe Lynch paying Klick a purse of $1,500; various telegrams sent to Doran; a typed Klick fight record; assorted newspaper clippings; photographs, editorial cartoons and a 1943 Madison Square Garden bout sheet featuring Jake LaMotta.
An interesting artifact of early 20th Century pugilism.
