4to. Half-title. Original mauve linen boards, gilt designs by Charles Ricketts (spine darkened and slightly leaned, some soiling and light rubbing). Provenance: Florence Humphrey (1869-1922), American Suffragette (bookplate; gift inscription from Hugh Horaim[?], March 1903); Henry Sotheran (bookseller's ticket).
FIRST EDITION, one of 1,000 copies of the play Wilde proclaimed contained "a great deal of the real Oscar." It opened at London's Haymarket Theater in 1895 where it ran for 124 performances. Mason 385.
