8vo. Original black cloth (hinges separated); dust jacket (tape repairs). Provenance: Bob McIntyre (1928-1962), Scottish motorcycle racer (inscription from Sidney Franklin, see below); Michael Franklin (bookplate). 

FIRST EDITION, FIRST ISSUE with Scribner's "A" and seal on copyright page. Hanneman 10. 

A SUPERB ASSOCIATION COPY WITH INSCRIPTION FROM AMERICAN BULLFIGHTER SIDNEY FRANKLIN on pg. 388 opposite his photograph: "To Bob McIntyre, with sincerest wishes, y para que no se olvide de su amigo [and so he doesn't forget about his friend]." Franklin was extensively profiled by Hemingway in this work. McIntyre was the first professional motorcyclist to achieve an average speed of 100 miles per hour.

ALSO WITH AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED BY MATADOR LORENZO GARZA: "Un recuerdo para el Sr McYntire [sic], con afecto [Regards to Bob McIntyre, with affection]."
