Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate tintype of a young woman, possibly a vivandiere, acquired in Dublin, Virginia.
Quarter plate tintype portrait of a young woman standing against a simple studio backdrop, wearing a brimmed hat with tassels, a jacket pinned near the collar, and a long skirt. Her style of dress is similar to that worn by vivandieres of the Civil War period. (Tarnish to edges, scattered spotting, some discoloration, image a bit dark.) Housed in a full pressed paper case (heavily worn, repaired hinge).
Consignor relates that this image was acquired from a Dublin, VA, auction house, which suggests that the subject could be southern, but her identity cannot be confirmed.
