[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate daguerreotype of a painter posed before a folk art painting, with daguerreotype plates resting on the table beside him.
Sixth plate daguerreotype. (Light tarnish to edges, resealed.) The subject is seated in front of a folk art painting depicting a large hall or meeting house. The black panel over the door bears the name "John McCarty," which may be the name of the young artist shown in the daguerreotype. Boxes of daguerreotype plates produced by J.M.L. & W.H. Scovill are visible on the table beside the subject. Housed in full leatherette case (fully separated at hinge). Interior of case with period inscription, "Taken March 1850 at Wapakoneta Ohio."
