Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Two quarter plate daguerreotypes of young children posed in studio settings.
Quarter plate daguerreotype of a confident young girl with curled hair, her cheeks lightly tinted pink. She wears a patterned dress and sits up very straight on a stool, posed before a plain studio backdrop. (Tarnishing along edge, spotting throughout, crisp detail; resealed.) Housed in a leatherette case (surface wear, velvet image border coming loose).
[With:] Quarter plate daguerreotype of a young boy seated in a mid-19th-century chair, possibly taken in a Baltimore studio. (Image a bit soft in focus, few minor scratches and tarnishing near edge of plate, slight weeping to glass; resealed.) Housed in a fully separated leatherette case (split at spine, loss to front cover interior and edges, surface wear).
Early Photography Collection of Jules Martino, Silverton, Oregon
