Lot Description
EISENHOWER, Dwight D. (1890-1969). A group of 2 signed items with related correspondence and ephemera. 

EISENHOWER, Dwight D. (1890-1969). Personal check signed ("Dwight D. Eisenhower"). Washington, DC, 3 January 1963. 6 x 2 3/4 in. printed check drawn on the American Security & Trust Company. Payable to Columbia University for the sum of $50 (ink stamp cancellations on recto and verso). The check is accompanied by a typed cover letter signed by Brigadier General Robert L. Schulz, US Army (Ret.), and Executive Assistant to President Eisenhower, to Mary Pool. Gettysburg, PA, 18 May 1964. 1 page, 7 1/4 x 10 in., "Office of Dwight D. Eisenhower" letterhead, old folds. Brigadier General Schulz conveys Eisenhower's personal check. Also included is a franked envelope stamped "18 May 1964 Dwight D. Eisenhower. " Used to mail President Eisenhower's personal canceled check to Mrs. Pool.


[With:] Photograph signed "Dwight D. Eisenhower." Undated. 2 3/4 x 4 1/4 in. silver gelatin photograph (grainy) of General Eisenhower standing in a Jeep in a parade (some areas of minor loss to ink, light edge wear to photograph).

[Also with:] 3 tickets for the 1953 Inauguration of President Eisenhower and Vice President Nixon, each 5 3/8 x 2 3/4 in. (one with light surface residue, otherwise very good). -- Silver gelatin photograph of Eisenhower, 10 1/2 x 13 1/4 in. (sight), framed, 13 x 16 in. overall.

Provenance: Descended directly in the family of Mary Atwood Pool (1914-2009). Washington, DC, resident Mary Atwood Pool began collecting autographs of notable American historical figures at the age of 14, with each autograph acquired by her direct communication with the historical figure, their staff, family members, or attorneys.
