Lot Description
[CURRENCY]. More than 100 notes from the Owl Creek Bank of Mount Vernon, Ohio. Ca 1816-1818. 

A group of approx. 66 notes of a $3 denomination, and approx. 61 notes of a $1 denomination, all from the Owl Creek Bank of Mount Vernon [Ohio]. Each note features a center vignette of an owl behind which is visible a wooded scene with a structure and water wheel.

The Owl Creek Bank was a short-lived institution that was in business from 1816 to roughly 1818. A detailed history of the bank and its demise can be found in Anthony Banning's A History of Knox County, Ohio, from 1779 to 1862 inclusive; comprising biographical sketches, anecdotes ... together with complete lists of senators, representatives, sheriffs ... and also, a sketch of Kenyon college and other institutions of learning and religion within the county ...."
