Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA - MINING]. CDV of a hydraulic gold mining operation. N.p., n.d.
2 1/4 x 3 9/16 in. CDV on cardstock mount (some soiling, puckering of image along upper edge, spots of discoloration throughout.) Uncredited, though possibly by Lawrence & Houseworth, San Francisco.
The mining scene depicted here features two men operating a hydraulic water jet to loosen rocks and sediment to create slurry that travels through a sluice box or long tom, also shown in the foreground of this image. Above, several onlookers stand observing the process. The hill at the top of the image is dotted with small log cabins.
