Writes about the order for "boots and saddles" that was given last night, preparing horses. -- 2 December 1862: writes that Captain Cramer came last night and announced pay, asks Martha to write more often. --  [Chantilly, VA], 2 January 1863: on scrap of paper, writes about having "a great deal of work to do" and not sleeping, wishing Martha would write. -- ALS from Captain Charles F. Ingersoll, 1st New York Volunteers. Alexandria, VA, 8 September 1862 (fully separated along horizontal crease). Captain Ingersoll writes to his commander protesting his dismissal according to General Order 195, asserting he was posted to quarters by the surgeon in charge of the General Hospital in Alexandria. -- ALS from Richard Olgamon to Captain Martin T. McMahon of General McClellan's staff. 31 December 1861. Letter concerns the wife of Lieutenant Dempsey, 2nd New York State Militia, who was wounded and captured at Bull Run and has been imprisoned since. "Mrs. Dempsey's efforts to accomplish her husbands release exhibit a degree of resolution and persistence which I wish to God all of us men could lay claim to...you will pardon me if I ask you to add to your many duties this new duty of helping this poor Lady as far as you can..." -- ALS from M.J.
