[CIVIL WAR]. 19th century cartridge box and cap box. 

Ca early 19th century militia cartridge box. 7 x 3 x 4 in. leather waist box with both waist bands intact, rounded top with overlapping flap, wooden block interior with 21 openings for a large caliber (69 caliber) cartridges. Catch on flap missing but otherwise a nice example (some flaking to the leather, some seam looseness at corner). 

[With:] 19th century cap box. 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 x 2 in. leather cap box with top flap, back and bottom made from one piece of leather, the ears integral with the side panels and not stitched separately. Brass cast finial, typical single wide belt loop on back. The leather latch sewn on the inside of the top flap. Shield shaped cover (stitching tight, wear to leather, missing fleece and pick). Provenance: "From an Old Alabama Collection," as indicated in description furnished by Carroll J. Dellery III.
