Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS]. 16 photographs of Native Americans, incl. Nez Perce and Inuit subjects.

6 1/2 x 4 1/2 in. photograph on cardstock mount showing a Native American man and young child in traditional dress posed between two cowboys, possibly wild west show performers. A penciled notation on verso indicates that the photograph was once included in the collection of Prince Roland Bonaparte, then purchased in Paris, "ex Bernard Garrett Coll." Based on this information, the photograph was possibly taken during the Paris tour of the Wild West Show in 1889 (fading to print, toning; edge and corner wear to mount).

[With:] In the Esquimaux Village. World's Columbian Exposition: C.D. Arnold, 1893. 8 x 6 in. photograph on cardstock mount. -- Cabinet card, studio view of an Inuit subject. Chicago & New York: Robinson & Roe. -- 2 photographs, 3 5/8 x 4 3/4 in., showing a Native American family at Otter Bay, Alaska, ca 1886 (as per accompanying typed labels). -- 2 photographs of young Native American subjects in traditional dress on cardstock mounts with "World's Fair, 1904, St. Louis" imprint. Neola, OK: Wm. Rebel (ink stamp on verso). -- 5 cabinet cards of Native American women and children, including Sac & Fox (Moore, Toledo, Iowa), Nez Perce children (E.G. Cummings, Lewiston, Idaho), Kiowa mother and children, a lovely young woman (McCormick, Boston), and a mother with child (heavily trimmed). -- Cabinet card of a Native American boy in Anglo-style clothing. Junction City, KS: Pennell. Possibly a student at the Indian School in Kansas.

[Also with:] Matted portrait of an aged Native American woman, possibly Old Betz, housed in 9 3/4 x 11 1/2 in. frame (unexamined outside frame). -- 4 x 6 1/2 in. photograph of a Native American mother and children outdoors (heavily faded). -- Cabinet card of statue featuring Native American subjects.

Together, 16 photographs of Native American subjects. Condition generally fair to good, with toning, some soiling, and edge and corner wear to mounts.
