Lot Description
FAULKNER, William (1897-1962). Absalom, Absalom! New York: Random House, 1936.
8vo. Half-title. Original black cloth stamped in red and gold (hinges starting); in unrestored unclipped dust jacket (some wear to extremities and slight chipping, some soiling). Provenance: Pricing stamp on rear flyleaf.
FIRST EDITION, TRADE ISSUE. The novel details the rise and fall of Thomas Sutpen, and the story is told almost entirely in flashbacks narrated by Quentin Compson (his Harvard roommate). Its groundbreaking technique, along with that of The Sound and the Fury, contributed to Faulkner being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. Petersen A18.2b.
