鲍爾（Alfred Baur, 1865-1981）是上世紀歐洲水準最高的鑒賞家之一。生于蘇黎世，居于日内瓦，在錫蘭開公司，在遠東覓珍藏。1951年去世前置下一棟大宅陳列藏品，即今日之鮑氏基金会博物館了。
這套書是館藏文物全集中的四冊《鮑爾藏瓷》，收錄唐宋以降大批精美瓷器，其中95年出借日本慘遭阪神地震不幸玉碎的一隻成化雞缸杯，只在本書留有倩影。
