A great admirer of President Obama’s, Secretary Albright would say after being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012 that the honor left her “almost speechless.” President Obama, in turn, would speak glowingly of her service as Secretary of State, saying that Secretary Albright’s “courage and toughness helped bring peace to the Balkans and paved the way for progress in some of the most unstable corners of the world.”
