Lot Description
KING, Stephen (b. 1947). The Stand. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1978.
8vo. Original black cloth-backed tan boards (rubbing); in unrestored dust jacket (price-clipped, light rubbing). Provenance: Sheryl Weilgosh (book label and presentation inscription).
FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY KING, "With good wishes." Later issue with T39 gutter code on pg. 823 with 35-line quote from the book on rear dust jacket. The Stand was written as an epic fantasy in the vein of The Lord of the Rings. King's first submitted draft was so long that Doubleday forced him to cut nearly 800 pages of text; this missing text was restored in the 1990 "Complete and Uncut" edition. It was later adapted into a 1994 miniseries of the same name directed by Mick Garris.
