Lot Description
[HEMINGWAY, ERNEST (1899-1961)]. Hemingway's Rolleiflex MX camera.
Rolleiflex MX camera no. 1405220. Braunschweig, Germany: Franke and Heldecke. 120-rollfilm, with a Heidosmat 75mm 2.8 viewing lens and Zeiss-Opton Tessar 75mm 3.5 taking lens no. 1067254 in a Synchro-Compur shutter. Housed in leather Rolleiflex carrying case with wearable strap (Christie's lot number sticker remains on clear window of case).
Provenance: Estate of Mary and Ernest Hemingway, sold Tepper Galleries Inc., New York, 16 May 1987; sold Christie's New York, 29 May 1998, lot 67 (catalogue page included), thence by sale to consignor.
This model was made between June 1951 and March 1954, quickly becoming one of Franke and Heidecke's most popular models, particularly in Europe.
