Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. LEE, Robert E. (1807-1870). Autograph free frank ("R.E. Lee"), as Lieutenant ("Lt."). Washington City, 16 December n.d.
3 x 5 5/8 in. envelope, circular "Washington City Dec 16" datestamp and matching "free" handstamp (light folds, minimal soiling). Signed at right by Lee, with additional name at left that appears to be in Lee's hand, "P. Herring." Inscribed in an unknown hand, "War Department," and addressed to "Jno. M. W_sse Esq (?), Pikesville, Md." Matted and framed together with a descriptive plaque and modern, printed portrait of Robert E. Lee, 27 1/4 x 16 in. overall. Accompanied by Certificate of Authenticity from Wall Street Creations.
