[SHIP’S PASSPORTS]. MONROE, James (1758-1831), Fifth U.S. President. Partially engraved document accomplished in manuscript, signed (“James Monroe"), as President and "Richard Rush" as acting Secretary of State, countersigned by "simon Theus Coll."[Washington], 16 July 1817.
1 page, folio, on scalloped-topped vellum, with the United States Seal at the lower left, 15 x 11 1/2-in., some minor creasing with a few losses to text, slight soiling and spotting, framed (unexamined out of frame). A ship's passport for the "Ship Amphion of Hartford, Levi Goodrich master or commander."
[With:] TYLER, John (1790-1862), Tenth U.S. President. Partially engraved document accomplished in manuscript, signed (“J Tyler), as President and "A.P. Upshur" as Secretary of State, countersigned by "Rodney French Collector" for Massachusetts and New Bedford. [Washington], 11 November 1843. 1 page, folio, on scalloped-topped vellum, with the United States Seal at the lower left, 15 x 13-in., some minor creasing and soiling, framed (unexamined out of frame). A ship's passport for the "Ship Corinthian of New Bedford John Minkley."
