Lot Description
REAGAN, Ronald (1911-2004). Prop drum likely from the feature film The Bad Man, signed by the cast and crew, including Ronald Reagan.

9 1/2 in. height; approx. 9 in. diameter wooden drum, both drumheads intact (wear consistent with age and use). Provenance: Gifted to the consignor's relative by cast member Charles Stevens (consignor relates).

The drum purportedly served as a prop for The Bad Man, an American Western film starring Wallace Beery, Lionel Barrymore, Laraine Day, and Ronald Reagan. The film, which was released in 1941, was written by Wells Root and directed by Richard Thorpe. The drum shell includes signatures of several members of the cast and crew, most notably Ronald Reagan ("Ronald Reagan"), in addition to Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Beery, Lorraine Day (with inscription to fellow cast member Charles Stevens), Henry Travers, Tom Conway, Nydia Westman, and Chill Wills. The signatures of Richard Thorpe (director) and Clyde De Vinna (director of photography) are included in addition to autographs from a number of unknown individuals. A complete list of signatures is available upon request.
