The 29th Ohio Infantry Regiment was organized at Camp Giddings, Jefferson, Ohio, under Colonel Louis P. Buckley. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 5/12/1862, and was listed as a POW (date and place not stated) who was exchanged on 9/21/1862 at Aiken's Landing, Virginia. Wilson was detached via Special Order to duty with the 7th Regiment Ohio Volunteers in December 1863, but was reassigned to his regiment in March 1864. He mustered out of service on 10/31/1864.
