Lot Description
[MILITARIA]. Large collection of excavated relics from American battlefields. Ca 18th-19th century.

Stirrup with modern tag indicating that it was found in 1864 at the Confederate camp on Fish River, Baldwin County, Alabama, and that it belonged to a member of the 15th Confederate Cavalry Regiment (no further documentation accompanies the artifact) (surface wear, consistent with age and use). -- Soapstone trade pipe, 2 in., with modern typed label furnished by Carroll J. Delery III indicating that it came from Private J.A. Ferguson's South Carolina Battery (no further documentation accompanies this artifact).

[With:] Heel plates and scabbard tip housed in Riker mount with modern note indicating that they were from the Battle of Stono Ferry, Charleston, SC. -- Approx. 13 dug clay pipes, several with dates inscribed in modern hand ranging from the 17th-18th century, 4 of which are housed in plastic bag indicating that they were excavated at Fort Ticonderoga (many with loss).

[With:] 3 belt buckles housed in Riker mount with modern notation that reads, "Yorktown, Va., Rev. War Era." -- Small group of musket/pistol flints housed in modern plastic box with sticker indicating that they are "Revolutionary War / French," and dug in Virginia. -- Bag containing multiple musket flints with modern typed label furnished by Carroll J. Delery III indicating that they were dug near Lake Ontario, site of War of 1812. -- Large assortment of miscellaneous relics from Fort Ticonderoga, housed in 2 boxes with modern labels furnished by Carroll J. Delery III indicating that they came from "Bobby Brule." Relics include a knife handle, nails, furniture handle, buckle, musket balls, and Civil War-era bullets. -- Multiple nails housed in box with modern label furnished by Carroll J. Delery III indicating, "Rob Roy Blockade Runner Nails." -- Box containing small dug relics, including "Crown Point Hut Relics," and "Schuyler Flats Rose Head Nails," as indicated by modern typed label furnished by Carroll J. Delery III. -- Wooden peg with modern documentation indicating that it comes from Boston, ca 17-18th century.

[With:] Large assortment of bullets from multiple sites, including: Port Hudson, LA; Spanish Fort, bullets and cannon friction primers identified as "Confederate"; Gettysburg; Spotsylvania; Chancellorsville area; and others. Additional images available upon request. -- 10+ musket balls. -- .58 cal. cartridge for a Billinghurst-Requa battery gun (as per modern label accompanying cartridge). -- 5 Civil War relics dug at Rio Hill (as per modern typed label), including 4 bullets and breast plate.

[With:] Excavated metal rod, 23 in. long, with notation and sticker indicating that it was found at Lee County, Mississippi, Chickasaw site, ca late 18th century (heavily worn). -- Austrian musket took found near the Rose Woods in Gettysburg, by J.H. Wert in 1885 (as per modern, typed label). -- 3 relics inscribed "Thomas Farm, CS Line." -- 2 relics inscribed "Ft. T." -- Relic inscribed "Crown Pt." -- Nail relic and English shard identified to the "Georgiana." -- And others with no identification.

[With:] excavated letterpress type blocks with modern notation on box furnished by Carroll J. Dellery III, indicating that they are "Port Hudson Lead Type." -- Knapsack hooks from Charleston, SC, as per modern notation on plastic bag, furnished by Carroll J. Delery III. -- And more.

An extensive collection of excavated artifacts, including bullets, musket balls, pipes, flint, and other artifacts. Please note that not all are identified, and no further documentation or certificate of authenticity accompanies the lot.
