Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS - RELICS]. Group of excavated tomahawks, strikers, and other edged weapons.

Lot comprised of 20+ items, including the following highlights:

4 excavated artifacts from the Collection of a Williamsburg Gentleman (as per consignor's notes), including: Flared blade square poll axe/hatchet, 5 x 3 1/4 in., excavated in New York, ca late 18th century. -- Spiked fighting axe, 6 1/16 x 3 1/4 in., excavated in Ohio, 18th century. -- Large spiked tomahawk, 9 3/8 x 1 3/8 in., excavated near Rochester, NY (Seneca/Iroquois site), 18th century. -- Tomahawk blade poll axe, 6 1/8 x 2 5/8 in., excavated in Lancaster County, PA, 18th century.

[With:] Excavated axe/hatchet head with modern sticker that notes, "Dug in dump site of New York Fort Site," 2 1/2 x 4 in. -- 2 unmarked hatchets/tomahawks with handles. -- Excavated axe/hatchet head with manuscript identification, "Cherry Valley, NY," 5 x 7 1/2 in.

[With:] Knife accompanied by modern typed label produced by Carroll J. Delery III, identifying the edged weapon as an "American Belt Knife, Revolutionary War," 11 in. overall, with hand wrought flat blade, hardwood handle with hammered washer/pins to secure the handle (wear consistent with age and use, oxidized blade). -- 2 early knives. -- 1 folding knife.

[With:] Bronze spear point, 11 1/4 in. blade, with modern typed label produced by Carroll J. Delery III, identifying the point as coming from ancient Persia, ca 1000BC-600BC, although this cannot be confirmed (green-blue patina, wear to surface).

[Also with:] 2 strikers housed in Riker mount with modern notation identifying the artifacts as "17th century fur trade strikers, Fox Hill, NY." No further provenance accompanies the pair. -- Iron striker with modern label indicating that the artifact was excavated from Mississippi / Chickasaw, ca 18th century. -- Wrought iron striker from a New York Collection (as per consignor's notes). -- Striker inscribed "Ft. Ticon," almost certainly excavated from Fort Ticonderoga. -- Unmarked striker with piece of flint. -- 6 tools with modern typed label furnished by consignor identifying the group as an "Antler tool kit for flaking, chiseling, etc...recovered at Site 'A' of the Hunter's Home Site, Savannah, Wayne County, New York, Ex-Harold Secore Collection." -- 3 pouches/sheathes.

Together, 20+ items. Artifacts heavily worn. Overall condition consistent with age and use.
