Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS] [JACKSON, photog.] Bannock Family, Sheep Eater Band, Medicine Lodge Creek, ID.
6 3/4 x 8 1/2 in. unmounted print with manuscript notation on verso identifying the scene, "Family of 'Sheep Eaters' found in Montana Wyoming Tys. (Territories). Spending the winter on the Salmon River. They live on Rocky Mt. Sheep. They are a tribe of exiles from all the other tribes." Uncredited, but known to have been taken by William Henry Jackson (1843-1942) on 11 June 1871. Additional notation on verso indicates that the photograph was a gift of Charles S. Turnbull M.D. to James Aitken Meigs (toning, some fading to print, light residue near bottom edge, some edge/corner wear).
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
