Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. 16 photographs of cowboys, armed subjects, and other curious characters.

The group is highlighted by the following tintypes: 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 in. tintype portrait housed in paper sleeve/mat showing a gentleman standing with a rifle in hand (possibly a Henry), with a revolver and knife tucked in his belt (bends in plate, some surface abrasions). -- 3 3/4 x 2 1/4 in. tintype housed in paper sleeve/mat of a man wearing a wide-brimmed hat and fringed coat, holding a rifle, with a pistol tucked in his belt (bends in plate, some surface abrasions). -- 3 1/2 x 2 1/4 in. tintype of a mustachioed fellow wearing a wide-brimmed hat and boots (circular surface abrasion near top right corner).

[With:] Cabinet card of trick shooter Alfred Rieckhoff (as identified on verso), in the act of performing a trick with weapon positioned above his head. Milwaukee, WI: L. Hagendorff. -- Cabinet card of a mustachioed man smoking a cigar, arms crossed, holding a pistol in one hand, as if he is about to perform some type of stunt. New Haven, CT: V. Pietrosimone. -- Cabinet card, outdoor view of men at camp, seated near their tents, with a wagon at left. Photographer unknown. -- 2 boudoir photographs, each providing outdoor views of large groups of men. One shows a group of men with rifles, possibly a shooting or hunting club. The second shows a group of men leisurely sitting on the side of a hill. Note that one of the men in the front row has a peg leg. Photographers unknown (toning, some soiling, edge and corner wear to each).

[With:] Cabinet card of a trio of cowboys, each with gun in holster. Caldwell, KS: N.A. Scribner & Co. (toning, edge and corner wear to mount). -- 4 photographs ranging in size from 5 1/2 x 3 in. to 7 3/4 x 6 in., showing cowboys, either armed with a pistol or a knife (view of three cowboys heavily toned and faded; one view of lone cowboy on cardstock mount with partial separation near right corner/edge). -- Copy image of Nat "Kiowa" Jones, a Texas Ranger (soiling, edge and corner wear to print). -- And 2 others.

Together, 16 photographs. Condition generally fair to good.
