Lot Description
Ottoman Knee Pistol

About 12 bore barrel that flares out to 45mm at muzzle. 7.75" barrel length. SN: NSN. Flintlock Ottoman knee pistol with extensive wire inlays overall to stock. Bare metal finish to two stage barrel and lock, possibly had bright finish at some point. Hardwood stock has fine checkering to grip and elaborate brass wire inlays overall that depict Arabesque floral patterns. Two stage barrel has a section chiseled with Arabesque motifs including palm leaves and mandala pattern engravings. Barrel also features sunburst engraving around brass front sight, and chiseled bordering around flared muzzle. Lock features simple scroll and what appears to be either an illegible lock manufacturer name, or stylized zig zag engravings to center. Item features a brass sideplate and buttplate, with saddle bar to left side and a carved bone ramrod. Item is without flint. Item has a heavy mainspring which is a possible indicator that it was made for the tourist trade.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report

Good. Bore is dark. Finish is mostly bare. Left forend shows a 1" long crack running from muzzle to brass inlay. Stock chipped on right side at forward edge of lockplate. There are some losses to wood around lock and triggerguard. Action may need work, mainspring action is heavy.
