Lot Description
Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter ca.1896

.44-40. 4.7" barrel length. SN: 163260. (Mfg. ca.1896) Blued and casehardened metal finish with hard rubber {Rampant Colt} logo grips. Single-action loading gate revolver with black powder frame and rifling, and with the grips modified to two piece configuration. The barrel has been shortened, and the cylinder pin screw is replaced. The frame and all metal parts have rounded edges from previous buffing and refinishing, and all metal markings are weak. Traces of the two-line patent mark visible on the left frame, along with the faint remnants of the FRONTIER mark on the left barrel. The barrel features a weak two-line address marking. Serial numbers match on the frame and gripstraps. The number 8810 has been scratched into the barrel.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
Condition Report

Good. Bore is Dark with shallow rifling and some pitting throughout. Metal finish is a dark brown patina overall with traces of gray at the edges. Some light pitting scattered over the recoil shield, forward frame, and the muzzle. The grips are heavily worn with the checkering worn completely flat on both panels and few details from the logos remaining. Action is not functional. It successfully indexes between chambers, but the cylinder lock fails to fully engage, permitting the cylinder to be turned out of battery.
