Lot Description

19th Century Eagle Head Militia Sword

29.5" blade. 35" overall. Single edged spear point blade with 17" stopped median fullers to both sides. Brass hilt is cast with floral and patriotic motifs, as well as a B-shaped knuckle bow, swept up quillon, cast brass backstrap, and open beak eagle head pommel. Reeded bone grip. Ricassos appear to have gold foil details, and blade has faint engravings that appear to be floral scroll and other patriotic motifs. Leather throat washer is still present.

Condition Report

Fair. Blade has a mottled appearance overall due to pitting and patination. Brass hilt has darkened discoloration. Grip has darkened discoloration as well.
